Alternaria was a 5 month long project that encapsulates research, design, and science all in one magazine. The magazine is 52 pages long and spans across a wide variety of topics. Some are more straight-forward like understanding the anatomy of a flower, and others go into the depth at which biology and design are changing alongside each other. It was a lovely experiment in kinetic type, research methods, and understanding intersections on a broader scale. Since its completion, Alternaria has flourished into a passion project that I hope to have follow me for many years.

Problem: Create a publication on a topic of your own choice for the duration of a semester long course focusing on publication design. Publication must include advertisements, letter from the editor, illustration, type and photography feature, masthead, departments, and at least 40 pages.
Solution: Alternaria was born out of deep research into biology and the world around us. Alternaria attempts to create a symbiotic relationship with design and science that puts the viewer into a new world where they are forced to reckon with the connections between the natural and the very calculated work of design. It makes a statement about our society and the design world that transcends the digital world we have moved into.
